Notan Art

<

Nōtan (濃淡?) is a Japanese design concept involving the play and placement of light and dark as they are placed next to the other in art and imagery. This use of light and dark translates shape and form into flat shapes on a two-dimensional surface. Nōtan is traditionally presented in paint, ink, or cut paper.

Learning Goals:

1. To learn about Notan.

2. To learn about positive and negative space.

3. To use a simple square and all the negative cuttings to create a collage, which will inspire a mask.

4. To understand about symmetry and asymmetry, and the Principle of Design, Balance.

5. To understand the Elements of Art: Space and Shape (Positive and Negative).

30 Day Drawing Challenge

I came across this interesting idea of a 30 day drawing challenge. I will provide you with a blank journal to keep track of your drawings. Follow the list, be creative, and have a little fun (just a little though). It would be great to photograph your drawings, create a collage, and post your thoughts about it once we are finished.

So...ready, set, draw!!
